the tsunami hijabi

A lot of Iranian women (young and old) wear their scarf placed over their styled hair - either hair is volumned up and combed back or the fringe/bangs is styled down over the forehead.

And i thought that was the basic Iranian Style... until i came across this montrous effort...

Ladies.. please be strap yourself to some sturdy furniture...

Be prepared to be scared..

a tsunami is coming your way!!!

What are these MASSIVE walls of hair? They hiding something in there? is that where they keep their phones or small change? They got antennas cleverly hidden under there?

WTF is going on?

Lets take a close look at this mess..

Here we have two different styles of the uncovered hijabi. at the bottom we have the typical Iranian "here are my bangs"/"my hijab only covers 75% of my hair" styles...

while up the top we have the "are you ready for a tsunami?" hijabi.

Why do girls do this to themselves..

i know beauty is in the eye of the beholder and so on.. but who actually thinks that massive wall of stand-up hair is attractive? and how the hell do they get their hair to stand up so straight? did they use a clear gel cement to harden that mofo?

I swear all that boof on their head must give them some kind of supersonic aerodynamics going on.. the hijabies are Wind Resistant!!!

So unless you look like the girl below.. i would stay away from looking like a tsunami hijabi...

wonder why you're calling it Iranian when khleej girls wear this too, as evidenced in some of your previous posts.

LOOOOOOOOL

That's horrible and terribly unattractive. I've seen some pics of Saudi women doing something somewhat similar but not to that extent.

And is it just me or do the tsunami hijabis in the 4th pic look more like guys making fun of the trend?

NiDa said...

LOL angee! That's just one heck of a tsunami there...

*~Ange~* said...

we all know (and i have said before) that khaleeji girls wear their hair styled outside of their scarf.. but the only 'tsunami' hijabies i have come across are these iranian ones. khaleeji girls dont wear their hair volumned up soooo much like this

*~Ange~* said...

anon - that isnt style.. how can that be 'in style'?.. its more like 'in shock'!!!

hahahahahaha, omg, that's is one of the funniest things I've ever seen, I can't breathe because I'm laughing so hard. Thank you so much for this post, I was having a horrible day and this just made everything better.

hahahahaaa this post was hilarious!!!!!! lollllll omg what an ugly style it looks like crap! just take the hijab off, you might as well!

kakchik said...

I've seen this kind of a hijab-attempt in Malaysian news. It was just an attempt to look like you are wearing a hijab during someone's funeral but actually you are a non-hijabi.
Yes, Ange, the style really looks like a big wave and you're really creative in describing it.
And...
I hope anon @ donya from tehran would change her style. Please wear your hijab properly sis. The hijab should covers everything except for your face and make sure that it covers your bosom too.
Let us be a Muslim who really cover ourselves just to please Allah. Insya-Allah we'll be pleased too.
We can be fashionable as long as the aurah is covered nicely.
Refers to Surah an-Nur: 30-31

Wassalam.

Did they look at themselves before they left the house??? Just because it's in style doesn't mean you should do it! Must be tons of mousse or hairspray.

Aw, these girls are beautiful, but would be even more beautiful if they covered all their hair. not always cool to follow whatever is "in style"

Interesting. But the tone of this entry is rather rude in my opinion. And the remarks of some other sisters are rude as well. Are we sisters in Islam or a group of bullies? :-/ I don't find it fun anymore. I'm ashamed.

grethy said...

I honestly dont think it's OK to put pictures and make fun of others esp when they're ur sis in islam. I know ppl make *stupid* mistakes sometimes but this def not an effective way to remind each other. Who knows these sis are way better than us ;)

Anonymous said...

this post is not about the hearts or faith of the sisters. it is purely about the stupid hijab fashion. i think you need to calm down and look at the world in a lighter way.

Stop it! said...

You people who make fun of others are so judgmental it's sad. You should be pitying yourselves instead of the women in the pictures. Islam is tolerance for God's sake!

Who even told you that these women are Hijabis? Some women cover their hair as part of a cultural dress and not out of religious conviction. Do you consider yourselves better than everyone else? What if someone made fun of you because of your hijab and asked why you choose to make yourself look that way?...only then it doesn't become so funny does it?

Please practice what you preach!!!

heba said...

i don't think anyone would make fun of us because we dress normal, so chill out.

*~Ange~* said...

i do practice what i preach - i would never wear my hijab like this - therefore i am practicing what i preach.

Burqua said...

Naseem... I`m shocked of ur opinion! Bitches?!? Do u know them to tell things like this?
And WHY? Because they used to wear something that u don`t like?

Do u know them??? Do u?????????????????

Gracianne said...

Usually you get this effect by combing your hair backwards but my mom told me that in the 60's sometimes they used to wear steel wool sponges under the hair to create that "SUPER-EXTRA-puffy" style on their bangs.

I do like that puffy khaleji style, that's basically how I wear my hair everyday, but wearing a steel sponge is too much!

Majda said...

To Stop It: Well I can't speak for anyone else but I don't think most of us are making fun of the girls themselves and their lack of proper hijab (everyone knows Iranian girls are required by law to cover so they may not be religious). I think it's mostly because I mean seriously... It looks stupid.

This is, in fact a fashion blog, ya know. :P

Mona said...

Woah. Ange is pointing out how ridiculous this looks as well as how it is wrong Islamically.

malizea said...

Asaghfiroula sisters please some comment over here are backbitting the face of those ladys is not cover and you criticize them! that's not allowed in our religion moreover this post is useless my dear ange thats not against you but I have to say what I think it should be hypocritical from me to read your post and say nothing, the prophet saw said "say what is good or keep quiet" and nothing is good over here!!

Stop it! said...

Great, so if I am against Niqab and think it looks absolutely ridiculous and a complete fashion faux pas, it is ok for me to post pictures of niqabis ridiculing them and have a few women join me in making fun of how backward they look and compare them to all sorts of ridiculous things?

ipv6 said...

oh well lemme put it this way,
why not give 'em the benefit of the doubt? If I'm not mistaken, all of the Iranian woman are required by local autority to cower their hair/wearing scarf and yess that including Jewish as well as the Christian community. Or else one gonna get big trouble with the problematic Iranian Morals and virtues police. It can get really ugly I must say as there are some cases that people die in the custody while awaiting bail..

So how do ya'll know for sure what made 'em?

Alhamdulillah, Allah Most Highest sees and hears all of our actions -- the Iranian girls in the pictures, the commentators on this thread, me, you and the author of this Blog :-)

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, and to their intention/action too.

Blogging is not about pleasing the audience, if you don't like what you see or read, then don't look at it.

And let's all try to not call any women nasty names... this is wrong and goes against the Sunnah of Rasool-ul-Allah (peace & blessings be upon him).

I say this first to myself and then to all of u, Sisters :-D

Hayyakumma Allah!

Umm Ibrahim said...

salaamu alaikum,
actually, I kind of take offense to this post. The majority of Iranian women do NOT wear their hejabs, roosari's, maghnehs or shals half off their heads with the "tsunami" look. The majority wear their hijabs better than half the girls in UAE or KSA do!

I enjoy following this blog but this whole sale ripping of Irani hejabi style is really annoying, why not post about the REAL Irani hejab fashion? Sure there are a bazillion pics out there of sexy girls in Tehran in short, tight manteau and tiny shal, but guess what, the majority of Irani women do NOT dress like that!
This also gives people a bad opinion of Iranian Muslimahs.

sigh...
anyway I am working on a blog myself and the first few posts will be on IRANIAN fashion like the REAL kind, not this crazy "ohh scarf half of the head" stuff...
http://oldschoolhejabi.blogspot.com
check it out, you might learn something...and also, may I suggest u book a trip TO Iran and if you stay out of the wonky areas of N. Tehran you'll see REAL Irani fashion and no it doesnt look like this crud!

Candice said...

I don't think there's anything wrong with pointing out how ridiculous this style looks (because it does). I seriously don't know why something like that would ever be considered fashionable, but there have been a lot of those things in the past. And it's fun to make fun.

But to insult the person wearing it is low. And just mean. No need for that, seriously. It's crazy how nasty Muslimahs can get and we see it regularly with these types of posts.

LadyArabiyyah said...

I think for them to wear the hijab like that is just plain ridiculous!! Not only is it haram, its ugly! And just to think, some of them actually took the effort to cover, its like, whats the use if you're gonna allow your hair to show?!?!

Anonymous said...

Why are you always railing on these girls for not wearing what you call proper hijab. You don't know their life and what they have to go through I mean half these girls don't care for a piece of cloth and don't want to wear it. I'm sorry but hijab must come from within not because someone is forcing you to cover up.

nora said...

we all know that showing any hair is not right hijab ..ange ..i respected ur previous posts about hw this is just wrong and not considered hijab ,but this post ,,i was shocked when i saw it !!... just to let you know that its mentioned in the quraan that ppl must not make fun of others so we are not allowed to make fun of others because simply these girls maybe better than you ! "only allah knows whose better",u are not allowed to judge ppl ,,only allah will judge us!

Sara.. said...

HAAA! its because their forced to wear hijab that they try to get as much hair on display as possible..thus the tsunami of hair :P

Zaenab said...

actually naseem it didnt have to be said, those 'bitches' you are referring to are forced to wear hijab so they can wear it how they want.

Ihssan said...

Not only does it not coincide with Islamic attire but it looks awful! Gosh how some things become fashion. Almost as bad as those stupid crocs people began wearing! You know the shoes with the holes! blah. I also have to say that the way the Turkish girls wear their scarves is interesting.

Pixie said...

I agree with Candice. The style, as Ange posted about, is ridiculous, but personal attacks against these women who none of know personally is unislamic behaviour.

Pixie said...

*none of us know---- typos and me are bestest best friends forever LOL

Pixie said...

Umm Ibrahim: I would to see such a blog. Most of the Iranian hijabis in my city tend to dress more modestly than the Tehran style, but still tight manteaus is very much in for a few and sometimes a little hair(these sisters are born Muslims but not terribly practcing), but for all the sisters I know from Tehran that pray five times a day they have absolutely flawless hijab.

Habayeb said...

calling them "bitches" would really put their imaan in check would it?

I totally agree with the point of this post however if we resort to calling them bitches and such unislamic words, it just shows we have perfected the way we look but not the way we are i.e our character and morals.

May Allah guide all of us. Ameen.

*~Ange~* said...

honestly, some of you are reading too much into it. im making fun of the hair style only - not the girls or the hijab.

'stop it!' - if someone made fun of me i wouldnt care. they can say what they want - if i am comfortable with how i dress and i know i am dressing islamically then i would give a crap what someone else thought of my dress. im not one to care about the majority of other people's opinions.

Anonymous said...

According to Wikipedia 2% of Iranians are not Muslim, but they still have to cover up.
Every woman, including foreigners, has to cover her hair and body, and it is enforced.
You cannot force a person to wear hijab, so many of these women might not want to wear the hijab, but have to because of the law.

*~Ange~* said...

and i just want to make clear that i didnt call anyone a bitch.

i know many irani girls wear proper hijab. this post isnt about hijab it was about the hair style. and that hair showing under hijab is a style thing (for many irani and khaleeji girls too) and not an islamic one. so really this post is not about the HIJAB at all.. or people being forced to wear it, etc etc etc...

its about THE HAIR

Pixie said...

Ange: I am not at you (the post) but some sisters' comments about the post. Love!!!!

haifa said...

i think it is wrong to put a caption below the picture by saying 'typical iranian hijabi'.not all iranian girl wear their hijab with the high hair. pls do think of others, we ourselves will never 100% perfect as well.pointing out the mistakes of others Islamically is ok,but making fun of it is absolutely wrong.

Umm Ibrahim said...

Ange...I think the problem that many of us have with this post is because you did say-without any real knowledge on your end that this crazy style is "typical Iranian hijabi". Frankly...thats the issue right there. The last time I was IN Iran which was in July I saw maybe a handful of "punk" looking girls hanging out in Charbagh in Esfahan with this style...hence this is not "typical Iranian" hijab style. sorry to break it to ya khanoom.

*~Ange~* said...

well you read the picture wrong. the "typical iranian hijabi" has green arrows which point to the two ladies with a tiny bit of their hair out... while "tsunami hijabi" has red arrows which point to the punk-wall style.
i didnt say anywhere that the tsunami style is the typical iranian style. read it again sis.

My mouth dropped open when I read the comment by SISTER Naseem calling the women "bitches" And then saying it had to be said??!! I wont go into how unislamic that is, not to mention just mean and nasty for no reason. I mean sheesh, so they are covered the way another woman may cover. I do NOT think Anges intentions were to make fun of the women, however I can see where offense can be taken ( mostly by the comments that were left in my opinion). I honestly think the comments that come after the post are far worst than anything she said. You will never see me comment saying something I feel is negative regarding what a sister has on it just not me. But to each its own. However, to say "these bitches look like f'ing idiots??!! wow is all I can to that, and I am sorry it got you in such an uproar sis. Why dont we all make duas for them to be shown the right path. That seems a lot more useful. :D

Naseem said...

ugh people chill out..i wasn't calling anyone a bitch out of some negative insult. it's slang. i'm not going to aplogize for using funny slang. don't get all uppity on me.

Naseem said...

butttt if the majority of people don't get the humour and find it offensive then meh, it's a small sacrifice i'm willing to give up to not offend people. :D

Inspired Muslimah said...

Naseem: I can admit to you that a lot of people tell me I cant take jokes and what not. So you may have a point. LOL. I think for me if I had heard you say it it wouldnt have seemed so harsh,as it was when I read it. However, I respect your last comment and I didnt mean any disrespect to you personally by mentioning your name. :D p.s. what does meh stand for?

Naseem said...

meh means like....oh well/who cares/it's ok/impartial/unmoved...something like that i think..

Majda said...

To Stop It: The difference is. Niqab is directly related to Islam. This fashion isn't.

And once again, she's not making fun of the girls. She's making fun of the stupid fashion.

Try to use your imagination for 1/2 a second: Imagine a girl, not wearing the scarf at all, but her hair is styled like that. She is not Muslim. Now... Doesn't it look equally as stupid?

It's not about the girls, or their uncovered hair. It's about the hairstyle, which looks kinda horrible.

Burqua said...
